THE WESTIN LA CANTERA RESORT UNVEILS ITS NEWLY RENOVATED SIGNATURE BAR – STEINHEIMER’S LOUNGE

SAN ANTONIO, June 23, 2011 – The Westin La Cantera Resort recently celebrated its 12th anniversary with the unveiling of the newly renovated signature bar – Steinheimer’s Lounge. With richly appointed Texas furnishings, exceptional gleaming gold accents and a stage for live entertainment, this contemporary cocktail bar will provide a luxurious and relaxing getaway experience for guests. The interior design team of Seifert Murphy in Dallas was commissioned to handle the reconstruction and renovation of Steinheimer’s Lounge by correlating the history behind Texas legend Karl Steinheimer and in keeping with the resort’s distinct King Ranch Big House theme. The team first went on a design adventure, researching Steinheimer’s early days as a pirate and later as a miner striking gold in Mexico. They followed his story as he travelled through Texas, burying his fortune near Belton while in search for his sweetheart. Tragically, he passed away never reuniting with his lost love nor with his fortune, leaving behind a single map and the story of buried treasure yet to be found. “We wanted to bring to life the historical elements of the story of Karl Steinheimer and his fortune of buried gold by incorporating abstract gold features throughout the design elements of Steinheimer’s Lounge,” said principle and lead renovation designer Susan Seifert. “It was also important to keep with the Texas flavor and design of the King Ranch throughout the Lounge,” she added. The results include a newly redesigned bar backed by a wall with gold veins, resembling gold mines. A beautiful gold brick wall mimicking bullion bars borders the lounge’s new terrace for guests to walk outside and see the Gantry Pool courtyard up close. Fixtures of gold plated discs portraying gold mining pans can also be found hanging in the newly extended lounge area, along with art renditions of Texas crop fields from nature artist photographer Richard Bettinger. Special light fixtures were also installed to highlight the bar’s original painted ceiling, which reveals a map of Steinheimer’s Texas journey. The team continued with the King Ranch’s Texas theme design of the lounge by adding custom designed glass blown chandeliers with tear drop crystal, hand-tooled leather chairs with nail head trim, and wire like accents on the table tops.

Live Music & Entertainment
New to Steinheimer’s is an entertainment stage to serve as a great indoor venue to feature live music every weekend from 9 p.m. to midnight with a wide variety of sounds including local musical favorites like The Casey Newman Trio and Johnny P. and the Wiseguys. And what’s a bar without watching the big game on TV? Now, guests can watch news and sports on a flat screen HD projector built into the extended lounge area of Steinheimer’s.

Texas Wine Tasting
Every evening from 5-6 p.m., Steinheimer’s Lounge features Texas Wine Tasting for only $10 led by Resort Sommelier Steven Krueger. A fifth generation Texan, Krueger creates memorable guest experiences through his deep appreciation of the state’s regional and cultural winemaking heritage. Steinheimer’s Lounge seats more than 100 people giving guests the option to sit at the bar and enjoy German and Texas crafted beers and hand-crafted cocktails made by master bartenders, sit at the oversized communal table, simply lounge or relax on the outdoor terrace. Located on level three of The Westin La Cantera Resort, it is open Sunday thru Thursday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
