What does La Cantera mean?

Literally, “la cantera” means rock or quarry in Spanish. The site that The Westin La Cantera Resort was built on was once a working limestone quarry. What is the King Ranch and why is it significant to the resort? Drawing inspiration from the varied architectural styles of early Texas history, the resort blends Spanish, European and Mediterranean design influences with fortified structural elements to capture a style coined by designers as “Texas Colonial.” The legendary King Ranch of Texas served as a guiding influence, and the Main Residence of the 825,000-acre family-owned property in South Texas was visited by both the architect (Hornberger & Associates/San Francisco) and the interior designer (Wilson & Associates/Dallas) during the resort’s early design stages.

Are you far from downtown San Antonio? The airport?

We are about 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio, depending on the time of day. We are approximately 15 minutes from the San Antonio International Airport.

Do you provide transportation to/from downtown and the airport?

From the resort, shuttle service to the airport and downtown can be arranged, as well as limousine and taxi service. Guests may also arrange car rental service through our Concierge Desk.
